Advocacy
Speaking on behalf of victims' rights, in courtrooms, in the legislature, and in our community.
Why we advocate
A Voice for Victims
Advocacy has been at the heart of Hope for Victims from the beginning. After Johnia Berry's murder in 2004, her family championed legislation to expand DNA collection in Tennessee, work that led to the Johnia Berry Act and helped bring answers to families like ours.
What our advocacy includes
- Speaking on behalf of victims' rights at the local and state level
- Advocating for legislation that promotes DNA collection and truth in sentencing
- Accompanying victims and families to court so no one faces the justice system alone
- Increasing public awareness in order to balance the scales of justice
